Destinations: Imaginary Soundscapes From Africa

Published

October 15, 2019

While working on an adventure autofictional novel happening in Africa, I researched many documentaries and music coming from this mind-blowing continent and blew my ears off listening to many traditional and also experimental and contemporary music from Africa.

Although I mostly searched for instrumental parts, the voices I found are creating intricate and abstract rhythms. Everybody I talked about my mix assumed that I’ll play, at some point, some Die Antwoord tracks but.. I didn't, since they're not so representative for the ethnic and cultural diversity to be found in Africa, in my opinion.

My thanks go to two people, who really helped me find gems most people don't know about (such as the last song in this mixtape): Raffaele Pezzella (aka Sonologyst) and Cedrik Fermont (with his extensive Syrphe database).
