The 29th release of the Italian imprint Yerevan Tapes unveils the last efforts of (undoubtedly) one of the most exciting artists from today’s electronic music born in Europe. Kӣr is the solo production epithet of the Serbian infamous Bane Jovančević, resident live artist and program manager of Belgrade’s revered halls of techno, Drug§tore.

Mramorje stands as the solid proof of what something like a visionary musician can possibly mean these days, when the struggle between finding the right balance on quality over quantity becomes a ridiculously consuming effort.

Operating with a rather clear vision on how music should sound today and leaving a big, wide-open question mark on how it should affect the audience, KӣR uses a distinctive pallet of soundscapes, making his live performances incredibly rich, inducing an overall feel of trancelike rituals, intriguing, hypnotic and definitely very intense. Once you get caught, there’s no escape; you are caught for good.

Each one of the three pieces EP builds tension and evokes shady visions of the world. You can’t make space for comfort in Bane’s music universe. This is clearly not music to chill on, or to superficially listen to it in the background, while cooking the usually Tuesday evening popcorn. Watch out, this is the real deal. This is what should all today’s electronic music come with – that certain feeling of consistency, of unpredictability, of dark force. And even if it may sound a bit pretentious, this definitely is not music for everybody. I’m not saying there has to be some sort of initiation to really get into releases such as Mramorje, but due to the avalanche of subtle and gentle sounds, as well as to the different layers of emotion that flow throughout, this music must be listened with a really open ear and mind.

Diving into the subjective fascinating world of an Eastern European sound artist is not always an easy task, but the magnitude of so many different feelings that you’ll find inside worth all the efforts. Pre-order HERE.
